UMOC : Ugly Man on Campus
The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for a non-profit organization.
The project involves an election with six candidates (three students and three faculty members) who compete for the title, "Ugly Man on Campus." Votes are cast through donations: all silver change counts as negative votes; all pennies and bills count as positive votes. At the end of UMOC week, the candidate with the most positive votes is declared "Ugly Man on Campus."
Although the title is "Ugly Man on Campus," women as well as men are encouraged to participate in the competition.
Each candidate chooses a non-profit organization (outside of UTD) to support. The winner’s organization receives all the money earned during the election. In an informal ceremony, the Ugly Man accepts his award from APO and presents the donation to the organization he supported.
During UMOC week, Alpha Phi Omega will set up a voting booth in the Student Union or Green Pit. The sole responsibility of the candidate is to carry a small money bucket during the week to gather votes.
