In-Sync Wildlife Rescue and Education Center:
In-sync is a rescue center and shelter for exotics cats. Right now they have 16 tigers, 5 cougars, 2 lions, 1 lynx, 1 bobcat, and 1 black leopard. It's in Wylie, which is about 45 min. from UTD.
Right now they need volunteers on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and weekend. Volunteers usually go there 9am-1pm. Your tasks would be washing dishes (big dishes), scooping playground, washing down enclosures and tubs. There's also office work and some other more laborious tasks (like stretching fences) if you don't want to do the cleaning.
Learn more at http://www.insyncexotics.com/intro.htm, the cats are very cute~
Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship:
Equest provides equine assisted therapy and rehabilitation for children and adults with physical, mental, emotional and learning disabilities. It's also in Wylie and about 45 min. from UTD.
They accept volunteers at the beginning of fall, spring, and summer. All volunteers need to go through their orientation and training sessions first. Volunteers groom, tack, and exercise the horses before classes, and serve as side walkers or rope leaders during classes. If you like kids and horses, this would be really fun!
Visit them at http://www.equest.org/ .
