Activation

After a whole semester's hard work, our 21 pledges of the Fall 2003 pledge class will officially become Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega this weekend!
Activation ceremony is a very important ritual for the chapter, and I would like to ask all the Actives, advisors and alumni to try to come out and be a part of it. This pledge class is the largest so far in our history, and they are the 5th year anniversary class too. Just makes it all better:)
So, please mark this down on your calendars:

Activation: 4pm, Saturday, November 22nd, Jonsson Performance Hall.
Dress code: Business formal

All Bigs and Pledges, if you would like to exchange gifts at the Activation, please feel free to do so. Otherwise, you can always do it at the Banquet.

Thanks! See y'all on Saturday:)

Thanksgiving Dinner

This Sunday after the meeting we will be having a Thanksgiving dinner in the Comet Cafe starting at around 7:30pm.

Please sign up to bring something either from the following list or feel free to make your own suggestions. Also everyone please don't bring the same thing. I'm sure we'll all get a little tired if all we have is mashed potatoes (mmm...mashed potatoes).

Also I think it would be a good idea if we had 2 people signup for each item (ex. Navin and Patrick are bringing pumpkin pies), this way we can have enough of everything.

Deep Fried Turkey Chris K
Turkey Tom T
Ham
Mashed Potatoes Tiby
Sweet Potatoes
Cranberries Kristina
Green Beans Anu
Stuffing Cracky
Soup
Salad
Vegetables
Rolls
Deserts
Pumpkin Pie Navin and Patrick
Meat Cin
Romanian Food Anca & Coral

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

National Service Week

This week is APO's 25th Anniversary National Service Week. In working along the theme of "Building a Sound Mind" our chapter's projects are as follows:

  1. We will be working with UTD's Peer Health Educators (P.H.Eds) and the Counseling Center to provide educational materials to the student population on stress, anxiety and depression at a booth in the Student Union from 11:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Also, we have arranged for the Counseling Center to provide a session in the Counseling Center Conference room (1.608A, SU) on dealing with stress. This session is from noon to 1:00pm Thursday.
  2. We have scheduled two opportunities for other students to participate in our weekly campus cleanup project. From 4:00pm to 5:00pm on Monday and Wednesday we will lead groups around the campus to pick up trash.
  3. We are encouraging everyone to volunteer at one of the locations of Heart House. Heart House is an organization which provides after school programs and a place to study for children in low income areas. Volunteers will have the opportunity to sit down with children as they arrive from school and help them in their studies and read to them. Please contact me if you are interested in participating in this. There is a volunteer application that every individual must complete before going to Heart House.
  4. Our pledge class is holding its pledge service this Saturday from 10:00am to Noon at the Lakewood Nursing Home. We will be making Christmas cards and playing Bingo with them. (contact the Pledge Chair, Navin for more information: KC13051@aol.com)

If you would like more information about these projects or future service projects in our chapter, please contact Geoff Knapp at service@apo-aez.org

University of Dallas Petitioning Group Chartering Ceremony

It is looking as if our little brother group over at The University of Dallas will definitely be having their chartering ceremony on December 6th. I would like everybody who can make it to attend and show their support for their group, and to welcome them as a new chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.

As they are planning a fellowship afterwards, they need a count of people to attend. They need to plan for snacks and room for everybody, so please e-mail me and let me know if you are going to go.

Also, Exec needs to go, as our chapter will be holding the chartering ceremony.

LFS,
Steven
