Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why do I want to join APO?
If your bored with UTD and want to make a difference, in not only your life, but in the lives of others, than Alpha Phi Omega is a great opportunity to do just that. Over the course of your first semester you will grow in your leadership skills, make many new friends (and maybe one boyfriend/girlfriend), and volunteer in projects that help the community and campus.

2. Wait, I noticed in your last question, boyfriend/girlfriend?? Explain Please.
No problem. Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity. Currently, here at the UTD chapter, we are at about a 50% guys to 50% girls ratio. Girls have all the rights and privilages that guys do. Neat huh?

3. So... then what are the requirements?
Twenty hours volunteering over the course of the semester and to attend the meeting on Sundays. There is also a fee of 25 dollars at the beginning of the semester followed by a fee of 30 dollars at the end of the semester.

4. Do yall throw a lot of parties?
We are planning a big party this semester, but I am afraid details are classified at the moment.

5. So what other fun stuff APO do?
We hang out... go see movies... play sports.. watch sports, normal college fun stuff.

6. Sports?
Yes, we can always use a few good players to help us out in the intermural sports league.

7. What sort of volunteer projects will be offered this semester?
A wide range. We try to have at least one service project a week. The big two this semester are Trick or Treat for Canned Goods and Math and Science Camp for kids. Trick or Treat is a massive project that we organize trying to get as many other organizations involved as we can to collect cans on halloween. Last year we collected over 2500 cans. Math and Science camp is also fun, APO buses 125 underprivilaged kids to UTD and professors teach fun classes on subjects that will help them in school.

8. Sum it up for me.
If you have thought,"I want to make a difference, but how?"or "UTD is just not a fun school." or even "I am so bored. This is suppose to be college... I need some excitement." Then come check out Alpha Phi Omega and make a difference.

9. How can I join?
Fill out the Contact Us form and let us know how we can get in touch with you. You can also find us during Rush season at our table, and our various Open Houses. Most definitely, feel free to ask anyone who has on an Alpha Phi Omega t-shirt!!
